bio

I am a writer and teacher, husband and father, an amateur bookbinder and linoprint artist, a Diet Coke and iced tea drinker (unsweet, I know some of y’all think that’s yucky). I’m learning to play guitar. I like listening to audiobooks, and I’m a fan of basketball. I may also have other important qualities and characteristics.

I live and work in deep South Texas at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley as an assistant professor (formerly as coordinator of, and lecturer in, the first year writing program). Before working at the university, I was a high school teacher. My scholarship focuses on writing program administration, pedagogy, materiality, genre theory, event and design, and maker rhetorics.

Writing, teaching, learning—these are the (work) things I find meaningful, interesting, and important.

“We must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big difference, ignore the small daily differences we can make which, over time, add up to big differences that we often cannot foresee.”

—Marian Wright Edelman

My curriculum vitae is an account of those small differences, some daily and some the labor of months and years, that I hope make a difference in the world. Please review my scholarship and teaching for a brief glance at what I hope are accumulating small differences.
